I came across the word "ormolu" in John Crowley's 1981 novel, Little Big and I just liked the sound of it. When I learned that it referred to an old gilding technique, I felt it was a perfect name for a surface design company.

Ormolu Design began as a line of gift wrap. At the time, I was using my off hours at a small architectural firm to print out patterns on the wide-format printers that we used to plot floor plans and elevations.

I left to start a business in late 2005 but my volume was pretty low and Ormolu Design eventually morphed into a line of digital fabric designs.

Now that I have switched my focus to handmade textiles, Ormolu Design is coming along for the ride.

My line of resist-dyed hemp table linens made their debut at the American Craft Council show in San Francisco in August of 2014.
